Information Technology in Health Care

The need to improve the technology of our health care system is self-evident.

A sound integration of technology into the management of medical records will bring the US Health System into the 21st century, increase system efficiency, and reduce the growing cost of health care for everyone.

“The gulf coast disasters showed us how beneficial portable medical records and health histories can be,” said Sarah Chamberlain, RMSP Executive Director. “The digital records system already in use by the Veteran’s Administration enabled them to transfer necessary records and information medical facilities across the country.”

Modeling a nation-wide system of digital records on the VA platform while also looking at other successful models from both the public and private sectors - the NEDSS project at the CDC and the private health care system of Kaiser Permanente – will give us the basis from which to promote the design of a comprehensive, national system of record keeping. “Integrating key technologies into both clinical and preventive care will benefit the health and welfare of all individuals,” Chamberlain said.
